How you can help the cheer fund in other ways

Nov 5th, 2007 by admin

As well as joining in at the Quizes or the coffee morning you can help directly by —

joining the committee or becoming one of our regular supporters.

The comittee meets about six times a year at Brookabottom Cricket Club on a Tuesday evening. The heaviest period is naturally September to December.  The committe consists of about ten people from the village who organise the quizes and raffles, the coffee mornings and other fundraising activities. This commitee also keeps a register of villagers who are likely parcel or bulbs recipients i.e. they are over 80 or chronically ill. To do this it should represent all parts of the village. At the moment we are looking for a new member from the Miller Street / Brick Houses area. If you fancy joining us, contact us on 01706 82 2760. The size of the committee is limited by our rules, so if we have lots of offers some people will be disappointed. Sorry about that.

If you don’t lke committees or don’t live in the Miller Street / Brick House area, there are other ways you can help. We are building up a list of Cheer Fund supporters who will help with some of our activities, for example, helping to keep our register up to date, helping to collect the grocery order from Asda , helping on a stall at the coffee mornings and, particularly, helping to pack and deliver the Christmas parcels round the village.

I

We usually collect the parcels from Asda on a Thursday afternoon at 2.00 p.m.before Christmas and keep the produce in our cars until we go up to New Summerseat House at 6.00 p.m. where we are joined by other volunteers to empty the cars, sort the parcels and make up delivery rounds for parcels, bulbs and cards. Obviously the more volunteers the lighter the job. Then we each take our round of parcels and cards, and deliver them over the next few days.

If you can help in any way, or just want to know more about the fund, please contact me, Roy Hardy, on the above telephone number or at roybron@hardyemail.co.uk.

THE RESUTS OF THE ‘MAY’ QUIZ.

SORRY FOR THE DELAY. THIS WAS DUE DO TO A COMBINATION OF SYSTEMS FAILURE AND HUMAN ERROR. I BLAME THE COMPUTER AND THE COMPUTER BLAMES ME.

Thanks to everybody who contributed by paying for a sheet. We made a hundred pounds towards the parcels for 2008. There were ten all correct solutions. Congratulaions to the quizzers, especially for negotiating the hurdles of alternative spellings. The draw was held during the Cheer Fund June Quiz at the Hamers and the winner, and recipient of the whisky,  was Terry Walsh of Higher Summerseat.
