Where is Summerseat?
Jun 11th, 2007 by admin
Summerseat is a village in the valley of the River Irwell in Lancashire, roughly a mile (through the gorge) from Ramsbottom and 3 miles along the Irwell Sculpture Trail from Bury.
The village station is one stop from Bury on the East Lancs Railway.
There were originally a number of separate hamlets, Brooksbottom, Rowlands, Wood Road and Higher Summerseat, but with the expansion of housing they merged into one which became known as Summerseat (“the valley of summer grazing”).
The official description of the area of benefit in the funds constitution is the former South Ward of Ramsbottom UDC
The observant ones amongst you will not doubt have noticed the omission of Ashbourne Drive from the map of Summerseat above. Apologies for this omission as we’re not sure what has happened. Ashbourne Drive is definitely part of Summerseat!
